An Urban Courtyard 2

Four years after installation, an established design required rethinking to create a low-maintenance garden for new owners.  With a strong ground-plan already in place it was possible to replace planted areas with a small lawn and arrangements of boulders and pebbles for visual interest.  The courtyard now has a clean contemporary feel, with space to sunbathe and textural interest from the water plants in the dramatic cistern of Cor-ten steel.  A good example of how a spatially appropriate arrangement of hard and soft elements can be interpreted in different ways.
